Two hundred children of soldiers in the York and Lancaster Regiment were entertained to a party at the Pontefract Barracks, last weekend.

Hill Thorpe, Thorpe Audlin, which was formerly the residence of Mrs Cooke, has been converted to a hostel for land girls, to serve the needs of farmers in Pontefract and district

14th May 1943 - Land Army Hostel : Killed in Action : Home Guard : Pontefract Infirmary
The Thorpe Audlin Hostel, with residents of 32 Land Army girls, is to start to function on Monday, and they will be ready to start work on Tuesday.

28th May 1943 - Victory Week : Medal Presented : In Hospital
The highlight of Victory Week in Pontefract, which opens next weekend, is that at least two local airmen actually flying with the ''Wings For Victory'', are to take part in the effort to provide more wings
