THANKS FOR PUBLISHING YOUR SITE
With
regards to the 'Memories of
Pontefract' by Maureen Holt, I remember all of the things she
mentioned.
I
went to Pontefract Secondary Modern boys in back Northgate with her
brother Terry and my wife also knew Maureen O'Hara, as she was
then. She remembers how all the girls used to run after Terry in
those days. My grandmother used to live at the other end of
Tanshelf in St. George's Terrace opposite the Queens Hotel.
On
the picture of
Pontefract
bus station when it first opened, my wife believes the man stood in
it is her father Bill Harriman who was a bus driver for many years with
South Yorkshire Motors.
Regarding
the railway photos of Peter Cookson, the one showing
Grovetown
mentions the pub which, not knowing the name well, was not only a pub
but an off-licence.
Many
thanks for publishing your site on the Internet as living in Australia
we never get to see anything about Pontefract except on the Internet.
Hope
you have continued success with your magazine.
