CHRISTMAS CAVALCADE
I
was once a pupil at the Elaine School of Dancing, Newgate, Pontefract,
and on Sunday 22nd December 1940 we gave a ‘Christmas Cavalcade’
concert in the Assembly Rooms, with the proceeds going to the Pontefract
War Appeal.
I
was one of the tiny tots in ‘The Doll Dance’, the first of many war
time concerts in which I took part.
If
my memory is correct, it was during the performance that the air raid
siren sounded. This was located in the Town Hall and consequently the
noise was quite ear shattering but the concert carried on at the
insistence of the audience.
