HEART-WRENCHING STORY
ADDED 3 FEBRUARY 2006
I
have just read the memories of Frank Holmes regarding his memories of
the First World War as a Sapper in the 62nd Division.
I
have been researching my grandfather, James Green from Knottingley, who
was also a Sapper in the 62nd Division (480641) Frank's memories were
fascinating to me because my granddad also received the Military Medal
for fighting in France and to read this account of what it was like was
heart wrenching to think what they must have gone through. I was in
tears by the time I had finished it.
My
family have no recollections of my granddad ever talking about what it
was like in the war; my Dad said it was something he just never talked
about and you knew not to ask.
Thank
you so much for having this letter on your website.
