A WONDERFUL MAGAZINE
ADDED 27 June 2006
Thank
you so much for the Digest - a wonderful magazine!
I
can't tell you how much I have enjoyed reading it. I have every one
printed and will one day give them to my grandchildren.
I
moved to the United States about 48 years ago but have made many
wonderful trips back home to Pontefract. I really do love all the
pictures and the many stories. I have yet to recognise anyone but I do
remember all the places. I attended Willow Park school and was in
Pinderfields Hospital in the early 1950's during the Polio epidemic. I
had a good friend by my bed side in the Iron Lung. I
worked down Wordsworth Yard at Burling and Mending.
Most
of my good friends have since passed on but I do have fond memories of
Smith's bakery shop, dancing at the Town Hall, the covered Market Hall
with the wonderful smell of Pork Pie and the bog blobs of pork fat that
my Dad took to the mines every day for his meal.
My
mum was head bartender at the beautiful Red Lion Hotel and afternoon tea
there was yummy! The Hotel was like you would see in the old movies now.
I
still have family in Pontefract and still love to come home. My uncle
sends me the Digest magazine every month. Great job! - it's so well
done.
