South of Baghill, Pontefract

General view of the south end of the station on a summer morning in 1960. The passenger train departing the platform is the 8.06am to Sheffield pulled by another ‘Jubilee’ No. 45660 ‘Rooke’ while on the down line an iron-ore train hauled by another of W.A. Stanier’s LMS locomotives, Class 8F No. 48205, rumbles through on its way from Wellingborough to Middlesborough. In those days iron-ore trains were a regular feature of this lines mineral traffic but this has now disappeared and all iron-ore is now imported. ♠ P. Cookson
