South of Baghill, Pontefract

This picture was taken from Pontefract South Signal Box and shows the view looking back towards Grovetown Bridge. On the right is Ewbanks liquorice works advertising Liquorice Allsorts.
The train is the through Cardiff Newcastle and is pulled by a British Railways Standard Class 5, No. 73164. A number of these locomotives were transferred to York locomotive sheds in 1957 but were not liked by drivers who much preferred the indigenous LNER types that they were used to. They were transferred away after about a year. Circa.1957. ♠
