Pontefract Loop Line
Excursions
bound for Pontefract Races often brought trains from the Sheffield area
through all three Pontefract stations to arrive at Tanshelf, the nearest
to the course. This is one such train running over the newly re-laid
branch (as a single line after 1960) and is seen curving away from the
York line and passing what is now Cott’s factory. The
locomotive depicted is one of the ubiquitous ex LMS Black 5 4-6-0’s
