East of Pontefract Monkhill

THE LANCASHIRE & YORKSHIRE LINES

Again; about 2.30pm on a Saturday this time in February 1957 but the vantage point is now alongside the goods yard. A busy scene is depicted here with the Goole coal train leaving the sidings and a Knottingley-Wakefield train approaching the station, whilst on the right a Monkhill-Knottingley transfer goods waits to follow the coal train. The signal gantry still stands although it now carries only two colour light signals instead of four semaphores because of the closing of the branch to Baghill.
