DAVID GLUCK PHOTO GALLERY
GALLERY ONE
From the early twentieth century until a
compulsory purchase order forced its closure in the 1960s, David Gluck and
his family operated a picture framing business on Front Street, Pontefract. David Gluck
was the proprietor of the business and his son, also called David and born
in Pontefract in 1939, studied at Leeds College of Art and Wakefield School
of Art before moving to the Royal College of Art in London and then on to
begin a teaching career at the Central School of Art and Design in 1974.
David Jnr. became an accomplished artist renowned throughout the art world
and his work has been exhibited throughout Europe with examples currently
held in many public and private collections. His work has also featured in
many publications and won several major artistic awards. Sadly, David died
in early 2007.
The selection of photographs featured here were
taken by David Gluck Senior, a keen and very competent photographer during
the 1930s. His photographic talent and vision equals that of many of his
contemporaries whose works have received much acclaim and publicity.
It is doubtful whether any of these images have ever been on public view
before.
Further information about each of these images
will be added shortly.
